ORIGIN OF THE "DOTS" By T4 Ranch
W.E. Whitehead's favorite doe on T4 ranch is a half-blood doe bred
from a mating of a red Spanish nanny to a buck we imported from
Canada, the Noster grandson "Martin". We always loved this red
nanny, SP-Y21. She was about 7 years old when she kidded with a
single doe kid, roan in color and a real whiner.
We found them in the pasture and it had been a cold winter and W.E.
wanted them brought to the house. He raised this roan doe kid to
about a yearling then turned her back out in the pasture and forgot
about her until she was old enough to breed.

She was bred and she kidded in the pasture. The first year she had
twin bucks, which of course were sent to market. The second year she
kidded with twin does, a red one and one that had a "lot of spots."
We had bred her to a red buck that we had, "Rojo Grande." We
purchased this buck from Border Boers in Del Rio, Texas, and he was
out of a Nico Botha buck that had been imported from Canada by David
and Barbara Slaughter of Sheffield, Texas.
The red doe kid died early on but the spotted doe did quite well.
Since the spotted doe was so good we decided to register the half
blood roan doe and did so under the name "Angelina." But W.E. still
called her "Lips" because of the way she chewed the raw peanuts he
fed her.
For lack of a better name we decided to call the spotted doe "Polka
Dot." We took the pair to Lawton, Oklahoma, to the ABGA National
Show. Polka Dot placed 9th in her 0-3 month class and her mother
placed as well. And thru the years she has gone over and over and,
bred to our red buck, "Scorpio," has continued to produce the
spotted kids.
Her first pair, Polkahontas and Polkamon, both were incredibly
beautiful. Polkahontas was kept for breeding here and Polkamon was
sold to and used by Davis Holder of Kentucky. Polkahontas was
flushed last year and also kidded with twins -- one polka dot doe
and one solid red doe kid. And Polka Dot gave us triplet does this
year, two little polka dots and one paint. This entire line of
spotted does, including Polka Dot, will be sold at our final sale on
October 1st and 2nd, 2005. Angelina, "Lips", will remain here to
live out the remainder of her life in comfort and joy.
